Anti-Fouling Paint Alum. Boat

So I went out and got 3 quarts of black anti-fouling paint (aluminum approved) and was hoping to start painting next weekend. The boat is a 14ft aluminum jon boat that I will be using for crabbing in Ocean City MD (salt water) so that is why I decide to paint it.

I was wondering the process in which I should go by to assure that the anti-fouling paint sticks to the boat. I was going to sand with 120 grit then wipe off with a cleaner for painting then do about 3 coats on the bottom and some of the side. Do you recommend using primer first? The boat was used in fresh water only, has original 86' paint, with some scrapes in the bottom from the rocky area I bought it front.

Thanks for any input...

If you bare up the aluminum or scratch into it.... wipe it with 50/50 vinegar water and maybe pick up a spray can of zinc chromate and just touch up those spots.

It should work fine and 3 qts is enough.

YR, you should be able to get it in OC. Try a West Marine.
