Boat is a 30 Footer Stern Drive Cruiser
TWIN - Volvo Penta SX duo prop drives
Presently in/out stored outside in a cradle . Moving into a wet slip , Salt water , new marina
Always a concern, stern drives in salt.
Since job will take most of week , ,bottom never painted , ruffing & barrier paint , tuff job hired marina .
Speaking with painter going over water line , I mentioned too him part of my quote was too paint drives. He was taken back , He said they never mentioned drives ,He said its a lot of work , Marina is a working marina , large vessels , no stern drives and painting of them is something they never do , Marina quoted me additional 4 hundred too paint
I am thinking , have marina take off the extra charges for drives , I will do myself . Will feel comfortable knowing anal me

If I decided too paint drives what should I do ?

Over the years I just Sanded surface , primer and spray can of Volvo Penta grey too keep drives looking clean
Never taking too bare aluminum .

What should I do NEXT ?

Hand sand the surface again best I can too remove surface loose paint
Marina is ruffing the bottom , ( not sure what they do ) will inquire ) should I have them do the same on drives ??
Once cleaned , do I leave ruff going over with anti fowling
BEST - SPRAY or HAND PAINT - How many coats
Have duo stainless drives , Anything necessary

Changing zincs , is there such a thing as over kill on zincs ,

Is there anything necessary in engine room too protect engines forming a barrier

No worries about freeing in FLA , Should I leave boat dockside plugged in ?? Nothing on except De humidor & battery charger .

Thank You

I would rough up the paint surface of the outdrives with some coarse steel wool, then rinse.

Apply the Anti-fouling paint to the outdrive with a 1" roller. Make it a heavy coat, but not so much that it runs on you. Go for a second coat. Re-coat after 4-6 months.

Aluminum anodes would be good, the more the merrier. Not sure what the anode regiment is for V-P outdrives, but go for the maximum they have. You will need to replace those every 4 months or so.

you can never have too big of a zinc or too many of them, especially in a marina environment.

scuff drive
epoxy paint
then 2-3 coats of AF paint
dont forget your props. paint them.
pull props often and re-grease the splines in the shaft
