i been doing some reading and I’m still not clear as to where my antiventalarion plate should be positioned. I recently bought a 1995 silvan pontoon with a 40 horse force outboard. I know it’s not gonna be very fast at all but it seems like I’m dragging an anchor when cruising down the lake. My quesrion is could this be part of the reason?

on a pontoon, you load the pontoon with typical weight, you run the motor and look. the AV plate should be about an inch or so under the water when under way.

realistically you should have a powered jack plate on a pontoon as the optimal depth depends if you have 1 person or 4 people, on the 'toon and where they are sitting.

BTW, your 'toon wont run any faster with 100hp than it would with 40hp. its a displacement hull and until you get enough power to make it plane your stuck at displacement speed.
