Going to be storing my 72 25 in a buddies garage for the winter....his old man who's a big I/o guy suggested putting some antifreeze in the lower unit....

I figure that oil wouldn't freeze, but on the other hand couldn't hurt....also thought it'd just separate to the bottom too?

Thoughts.....

antifreeze in the lower unit....
NO. No way !

Run the engine in fresh water if its been used in salt water, to flush the cooling system.

Allow it to drain properly. A couple of turns on the starter will ensure that no water is left trapped in the pump.

Give it a full service ... all the items listed in the manual, including changing the gearcase oil.
If there are any signs of water in the oil now is the time to be thinking about new seals .. not 5 minutes before you want to use it next year.
New pump impeller at the same time, or before you next use it, if any doubts about the pump.
