Hey everyone, I have a 1984 Del Magic with the 470 in it. I know, I know, the 470. But anyway, when I put antifreeze in the motor it come out of the sterndrive where the raw water enters. So I took the lower end of the stern off and the propeller housing where the pipe goes up to the top end was melted. I also took the pump apart and the propeller was bad. Would that let engine coolant in to the stern or is it a bad heat exchanger? Any help would great.

Thanks,

Billy

Ok... your engine has been overheated.. That's why the plastic water pocket cover is melted. That needs to be replaced. The anti-freeze coming out indicates that you also have communication between the freshwater cooling and the seawater cooling. This could happen in the heat exchanger, or you could have a head problem, cracked, or leaking gasket.
