For you northerners here is an idea that works well and is cheap. 5 gal bucket, 3/4 galv nipple with 2 nuts, female pipe to male hose thread adapter, garden hose valve,6 ft 3/4 garden hose and one male and one female hose end. Drill hole in bottom of bucket(side bottom)allow for nuts. Attatch nipple and use sealant. let setup. install adapter and valve to nipple and then install hose ends on hose. now you have a bucket with a hose attatched. put it on the boat transom well above the outdrive and put in your favorite antifreeze 50/50 or whatever you need for your area..(I save my old from the truck and use it). Start the engine and open the thermostat. Swap fresh water hose on the muffs to the bucket rig. open the valve on the bucket, start the engine and when antifreeze comes out the OD your done. Drain the block and save the antifreze in spring before you put it in the water. Gotta be easy on the environment.

Ayuh,...........
And,.... If by Chance the T-Stat Closes while you're doing All This,.............
You'll have Well Antifreezed Manifolds,+ WATER in the engine Block.......................

Or,........

Just Drain ALL the Water Out,+ Leave It Alone...................

Air Doesn't Freeze.........................

What Bondo said. I have tried that and if you are winterizing on a cold day up here, even with a 160 thermostat, it will not open all the way since the motor is only running at idle. I took that winterizing tank I got at WM and added a livewell pump to make it into a flusher for my trailer brakes, and I also use it to winterize my pressure washer!

OK, that makes sense. I live in alabama and it gets down around 20 a couple times. Works for me. Someone told me that the antifreeze coats the metal also and keeps the rusting down too. I guess thats the main reason that I do it.

Re: Antifreeze winterizing set-up

while air does not freeze antifreeze aids in keeping the castings from rusting like crazy.
I do this for a living and have for many years.
after completeing all the steps leading up to the engine fogging I start the fogging process, shut the engine down, pull the block drains and insure they are clear, hook up my NON TOXIC antifreeze solution and restart and continue the fogging process.
now I know the block has a correct AF mix, the oil coolers and seawater systems are proteceted from any low spot drain backs and the salts and minerals in the porous castings wont corrode like a bat outta ell.
and using this method I dont have to fight any other drains other than the block.
if I have worked on the rig since new ill clear the drains for the manifolds and risers, otherwise I try not to touch them. here in the salt pond if you dont touch a fastener for a few years its not a good idea to attempt it sometimes.

Re: Antifreeze winterizing set-up

rod know what you mean about salt water motors. One of the first things I did when I got my 88 OMC was to get all the drains open, I coat the threads on em with OMC triple guard grease, and I have no problem getting out the block, manifold, and pivot housing drains on the Cobra drive, even after 6 months in salt water. Motor itself has very little rust for 17 years old. Must be spraying the Boesheild on it every year paid off, oil pan still looks new underneath!
