I have an old (1958?) 7.5hp Evenrude Fleetwin auqasonic. It was my dad's and I put a chuck of change into it, but it runs great again. My only complaint is it just doesn't have much push. It has the original 2 blade, kinda "S" shaped prop. Does anyone know, can I replace this with a modern 3 blade that's probably more efficient and provide more thrust?

I have a '57' 7.5, basically the same engine. I have two props, one as you described whiich is the "weedless" type.

I also have a three blade brass one.

There is a bit of difference in the two in performance but not much.

The old props are hard to find, but you may be able to on EBay.

The difference between your prop and those that are still sold, is that yours has no hub in it and both the drive pin and cotter key holes, are at the back end of the prop. On the new props, the drive pin is at the front, while the cotter key hole remains at the rear.

If the weedless prop is pitched for your application, it should work fine. I have several late 70s Johnson 6hp motors, with the weedless props. On one, I went to a three blade and didn't like it - I went back to the weedless.

I just yesterday found a brand new, in the box, original prop for my 1957 7.5hp on eBay for $20 'buy-it-now', plus $10 shipping.

Jumped all over it, of course :D
