Re: Antique Motors(need info)

Can't help with the Elgin but the HD25 was built between 1946 and 1950. The HD26 was built in 1951.There's a antique outboard web site that shouldn't be to hard to find.
Would that fastbackgt67 be a Mustang?

c/6

Hooty

Another good place to go is the "ask a member" part of this site.
http:\\www.aomci.org

This is the board for the antique Outboard Motor Club

According to he Old Outboard Motor Servive Manual (1st Edition), the Elgin is a 1955, manufactured by West Bend. If you then go to West Bend section it says 1/2 pint oil to 1 Gallon gas.

I was wondering if you have a manual for the HD 25 or know where I could buy one.

Well I disagree with 40:1 mix ratio. Outboards made before 1965 usually have bushings instead of needle bearings and need at least a 24:1 mix...16:1 is what the mfgs recommended. You can do 24:1 with modern TCW-3 oil however. If it objects, switch back to 16:1. Anything leaner is sure to burn up the older iron.
