I am looking at picking up a 96 T-100 extra cab, truck has around 110,000 miles, which isnt major for a toyota.Has anyone ever owned this particular truck.I have had 3 small toys, and they have been bulletproof. The price is around 8200.00 ,,truck is in pretty good shape.

I personally do not like the design of that particular V6 engine, If not properly maintained, they can have cam bearing (head) issues, and head gasket problems. They are a little small for that big of a truck also. Just my opinion.

100K isn't alot of miles for ANY modern car or truck. Brand makes no difference.

That partucular truck was a bit underpowered. Not very popular, for that reason.

mrtool2u,

You are missing the point, or, you've already bought it.

The T100 was NOT a popular vehicle. It was oversized for its powertrain and undersized for its market.

Is it a BAD vehicle, NO. If you buy it, plan on driving it forever. The resale is heading south-fast.

Realistically, what do you plan on using it for? If it will basically be a car with a really big trunk, and you don't plan on towing a massive load, it would be fine. When they first came out I was interested until I popped the hood. The one I was looking at had the four banger in it, that is just too small. The six banger is fine for average use, there are a lot of fullsize Chevies and Fords running around with six bangers and they are doing just fine. Its when you plan on hauling a chord of firewood, towing a large boat, things like that when the larger engine is needed. If the truck will fit your needs and you like it, then buy it, but it wasn't the most popular of their truck line. Unless the thing is spotless, the price may be a smidge high. Good luck...

I won't comment on the price because I don't know about the value, but I did own a 97 T100. I have to say I miss the truck and should have kept it. I bought it new and never had any problems in the 4 years or so that I owned it. I remember the day I rented a Bobcat and the guys at the rental office laughed at me for thinking I could tow it with my T100. Hell, it towed it fine. Granted, I did not tow it for an extended period but it did the job I asked of it.

It may have not been the most popular Toyota and that probably greatly affects the resale, but it was a GOOD truck. I owned a Tundra (V-8) and for the price I would have rather had my V-6 T100.
