Any Big Difference between King Cobra 454 and 460???

I got a '94 Chris Craft Concept, with only the transom assy, and it is supposed to be a King Cobra 454 7.4.
I just found a 1988 460 King Cobra.

1988 and 1994 should be the same correct? I dont think there was a generation change?

Would I be able to use the '94 transom assembly that's on there right now with the '88 motor? If yes, is the drive going to be the same generation as the '94 drive or older version? (i know the gear ratio will have to be different since its a 460 and not 454), but any other big differences?

Is the block exacly the same? Placement of the manifolds and the engine mounts??

No, this is a new boat i picked up that has only the transom assy, no motor or drive. The transom assy IS for King Cobra OMC 454.

This boat originally had a King Cobra 7.4, 454, but only the transom assy was left.

Pretty much, what I want to know is, is there a difference between a 1988 460, and a 1994 454.
They are both King Cobra, only my transom assy (the only thing the boat came with) is for the '94 454.

Bondo was right. Even if it's only the transom assembly, and even if the 460 will fit, you're better off going Mercruiser. King Cobra parts are no longer available and even if they were you'd have a hard time finding a mechanic willing to work on it. Go ahead and try to find a mechanic before you buy.

The 460 is a Ford, The 454 is a Chevy. Nothing is interchangeable.
The 460 was only used by OMC for a few years, then dropped in 93 never to be heard from again.
The 460 Ford marine parts are impossible to find.
The 454 Chevy marine parts are very common and easy to find.

Ayuh,... I understand that, which is WHY I said what I did...

Pull the transom assembly, 'n SELL it...
Then go back together with a Merc or Volvo driveline...

Ok, now it makes perfect sense. I never knew 460 if ford... i thought it was the same chevy block only 7.5 instead of 7.4.
In the mean time i did some research and found out that the king cobra 460 is ABSOLUTELY absolute, but that the 454 king cobra is still ok to find parts.... didn't volvo buy the king cobra design??

Good, im kinda glad to hear that. I really didn't wanna go OMC... never really liked them, but everyone kept telling me that the King Cobra is not like other OMC's, that its the ultimate beast, its hard as it is to find 454 Merc stuff, i can just imagine then how it would be for the cobra... Thanks for helping me make up my mind, i guess im ripping out the transom assy then. And as far as i know, the cut out is the same right? Only gotta drill 2 extra holes?

that the 454 king cobra is still ok to find parts....

Maybe maintenance parts, but for hardcore replacement parts you will be relying on marinas having forgotten dusty yellowed bags of NOS parts on hand, and questionable used parts that someone has cast aside in favor of a Volvo or Merc drive.
