Your question is hard to follow...

I don't even know what kind of vehicle you're talking about, but presumably this is an older carburated GM V8 truck of some type.

A few generic answers: 700r4 swaps for turbo 350's are commonly done, there's articles all over the internet with how-to instructions. Here's a nice one with pics done on a 68 Camaro...might help you visualize what all needs to be done and purchased:

4l60E swaps are not as straight forward because they have more computer controls. But they have been done. Will be harder and cost more money.

Use Google, type "4L60E swap for Turbo 350" and start reading...

As for finding a transmission of any type that's strong enough to handle towing a trailer while also pushing 30 inch tires? Either spend some good money and get one built to handle the abuse, or buy cheap used trannies by the dozen and get good at doing this swap.

But here's the bigger question. With 30's do you really think you'll ever get that tranny to effectively use the overdrive gear anyway? Especially while towing? Unless you go back to stock size wheels/tires I'm not sure I agree this is a smart swap to even consider. Your motor needs to rev to keep those big meats turning...and you will need to keep feeding it PLENTY of gas.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Good luck!

I know a tow yard in Peoria, IL that has a fine shifting 700R4 in a 1987 Checy van with only 123,000 miles on it. I know, cause they picked it up from my house over a year ago when the brake line rusted through and I threw the van away.

If you want to give me $2500, you can come to Peoria and get my fine running 1990 Chevy G20 van with a good shifting 700R4 with 105,000 miles on it. And you can drive it home!

The cost depends on how handy you are. When I blew a 350 turbo trans I went down the to the wrecking yard and bought a rebuildable 700R4 core transmission (late 80's Camaro), and then a high performance rebuild kit and converter from Hughes transmission. $400 + a weekend of work and I had a bullet proof transmission, but this was 20 years ago.

I drag raced the truck (S-10) running a 150HP NOS shot, then after my racing days I use the truck for towing a 3000# boat. Never had a problem with the transmission, even towing in mountainous and desert conditions.

Towing with a stock 700r4 (especially in overdrive) is asking for trouble. I've destroyed two 700r4's, different trucks very little towing. A stock 700r4 is a piece if junk. Having said that, a properly rebuilt 700r4 with a good torque converter will outlast a turbo400.

I agree towing in overdrive is never a good idea go for a th400 if you want better milage then change out those gears to 3.23 or even 3.08 you have a 383 motor so you should have plenty of power it is just a matter of what rpms you are pulling when you are cruiseing that is going to effect you milage the most.
