Welcome Ed,

I launch my boat at the Miles Bayou ramp, just south of Ruskin. Leads out to Shell Point into the bay. Am restoring my boat, just about done. Motor issues left to correct.

Would love to have someone to hook up with for an outing. Haven't done any fishing on my boat yet in that area, but I have been out a couple of times on other boats in there.

Presuming you have a boat, getting back into the flats can be an adventure. You need a boat that will float in a foot of water.

I have used medium and light weight gear. Live pinfish or shrimp, small sinker weight, somtimes with a bobber. There are whole libraries on the affects of the tides, currents and seasons of fishing in that area.

You want to get a chart. At low tide, some of those areas down there in the bay are not covered by more that 2 foot.

let me know if you want to get together talk about it.

Never leave home without a gold crocodile spoon and a popper cork rig! You will find the two of them invaluable for fishing that area. Also DOA "measles" shrimp and gulp baits work well under those poppin corks.

As long as you aren't throwing up under any mangroves, the lighter the gear the better.

Welcome back and good luck! :)
