Heading down in about 2 weeks. Going to be looking at housing, for a job or possibly some commercial property.

How is the local economy down there as far as the marine world goes? Are all the shops grasping at straws or is the repair business fairly steady.

Can anybody recomend shops to look at for employment, and shops to avoid?

How about areas. I'm sure there are sleazy parts of the towns. Is crime/violence/drugs higher in certain parts? I'd like to think I would get an honest answer from a realator, but having a second opinion never hurts :)

Thanks all.

Re: Any Cape Coral, FM people here??

Hi there,

We are winter residents of beautiful Ft Myers, matter of fact we bought our first boat there this past winter.

Ft Myers/Cape Coral has been hit very hard (second place behind Las Vegas for foreclosures in the nation).

That being said there are great housing bargains to be had. Ft Myers will bounce back, it truly is a great place to be.

I am also a firm believer that if you have skills and determination you will succeed.

As with every city there are good areas and less desireable areas, hopefully you will have the luxury of some time to get to know the area before commmiting to a purchase. Whenever you get drastic downturns the crime rate does increase but while you are there talk not only to realtors but also engage others (folks in stores, restaurants, etc).

Whatever you do visit the Edison/Ford Homes while you are there!

Good luck.
