Any chance of damage? Impeller Question..

I pulled my boat out of the water with the engine idling. Dumb newbie move. The engine ran for about one minute, probably a bit less. The impeller is new--did I harm it? I went back to the house and ran the motor on muffs, everything seemed fine.

Thanks.....

Your title says this:

"Any chance of damage?"

Yes, there is a chance. But it's also likely that all you did was shorten the life of the impeller and it's housing, too. I'd keep an eye on the temp guage the next time you use it on the water, to see if the temp changes or goes too high at higher rpms. Good luck

Thanks. That's pretty much what I figured. I'll keep an eye on things.

If you think that you have damaged the impeller, why not change it? They are not that expensive. Do you want to find out it is wrecked out in the middle of a lake somewhere?

What drive do you have? I accidentally ran my alpha 1 gen 2 a few times for a minute or so out of the water dry and no harm was done to the impeller. Changed it after three years of use and it was practically brand new. No worries. Gen 1 impellers I don't believe are nearly as durable though.

Just my 2 cents

Thank you all. I took the boat out this afternoon and ran it for a couple of hours with no apparent ill effects from my idiocy this morning. Granted, the problem may not manifest itself for awhile, but I'll keep an eye on things.

By the way, the drive is OMC Cobra.

15 minutes to replace it, is all it takes.

I would change it....especially since it is so easy to change!

I get the message: why risk it? I'll change it. Thanks, everyone.
