i'm new to outboard motors, and don't know too much about car engines. but I'm getting into boating so i need to get this running, if it is worth it.
I looked it up, it should be a 1969.
questions:
does anyone see anything that is it missing? maybe an Air filter ?
What size battery should I buy to run it? it will be used for a 1959 15 ft fiberglass boat , lake and sea. Should I get some kind of duel purpose battery. I have read a little about deep cycle and then some other kind. one runs the motor one runs the accessories.

Any suggestions on the best battery to get for my situation, just using the bare basic items to power, would be appreciated.

i guess i better read how to upload pictures

thanks

All that you need is a 12 volt automotive battery, you do not need a deep cycle for the main outboard. There are no automotive style air filters on a outboard. How long has the outboard been sitting? The water pump will most likely need replacement. Do you have the controls? The steering? If you plan on buying this motor, it would be best to have a manual on it. After you have posted for a few times, you should be able to upload photos. Look for a model number on it, it is important. It's under the cowling towards the front of the outboard. Before investing a lot of money, I would suggest to do a compression check. Look through the forums and it will tell you how to do this. Good luck and happy boating.

Thanks for you comments, I guess the first next step is getting a battery. But,l i've done a bunch of things backwards then. I bought the motor last summer was told it ran but never heard it running. paid 125.00 then i just covered it for the winter. I dont remember how long the seller told me he had it or when he ran it. model number is 4555 serial 1610. I do have a starter cable with a key for it and I have a accelerator cable of some kind that says Chrysler also

Look through the forums and find out how to do a compression check. You will need to pull the spark plugs and ground out the sparkplug wires. If you don't own a compression gauge, you can rent one at autozone, etc. Post your results of the compression readings. I'm not a pro but others on this site are and given time they will answer you. On the search bar on top of this page, type in how to do a compression test on a Chrysler and it will bring you to the page. If you have good compression, spark, and fuel, it'll run.

Tons of info on the net.
First do a compression test followed by a spark test.
They OK?? then.
Change the impeller.
What type of fuel tank? Make sure it's clean and no water.
The hose and the squeezie is good.
The squeezie should be hard when pumped up.

Since the motors sat for a while, you might need to clean the carb?
Usually dropping the float bowl can show how bad the carb is?

Spark: if it's set for a while the points under the flywheel will probably need sanding/filing to get spark.
Squeezie: if it doesn't pump hard? then the fuel pump could be bad.
Check these things and if there is a problem with anything??? get back on and we'll try to help.
