My buddy is looking at a boat. When I asked him about the motor he told me it is an L-DRIVE.After looking around on the internet I found one to look at.Why havent I heard of this before? How does it work? What opinions does everyone who knows about them have?I would also like to know what the "Experts"on this site think about the maint.of these babies!! Thanks.

If your Buddy hasn't bought it yet,..........

Tell him to Run,..... Run as Fast as He Can.....

The Only Thing Worse than Owning an L-Drive is,..............
Owning an L-Drive in an Old Bilgeliner....................... ;) :D

An L drive was a very poor attempt to attach an outdrive to an inboard mounted Force ouboard powerhead......... It didn't work.

Bondo. There are LOTS and LOTS of worse boats manufactured than the Bilgeliners as you want to call them.

Halloween IS comming. How about a Bilge(Bay)liner stringer drive with select trim and power steering. That could shiver some timbers.

Actually Bayliner did get lots of people into boating,at a low cost.Unfortunately low resale also.

DHP

Thanks for the REALLY fast replys.I'm going in to work tonight and I'll see my buddy.I'll let him know to stay away from the L-drive. 2 weeks ago got a chance to look around in a 2004 28 ft. "Bilgeliner. Now,I have an 1984 capri and have seen some things that I would change. This 2004 is really nice.I looked around at things and found it to be a quality product.Maybe oneday I'll own one like it. P.S- This statement was not intended to start up the bashing wars.I just wanted to tell what I found. With all I read on this site about the Bayliner problems I guess I was not expecting to see the beautiful boat with quality parts both in and outside the boat that I did see.

The average Bay(bilge)liner I see is 17 foot to 19 foot.Seems to be a differnt ship when you pass 25 foot.I like them.

DHP
