Any Firefighters/ EMT's With Minitor Pagers?

My Motorola Minitor II pager is driving me nuts. It will not charge in the cradle. I've made sure that the prongs on the bottom of the pager are making contact with the prongs on the charger but still nothing. I've checked the voltage at the charger and that's good. I've even tried taking alligator clips and connecting them to the corresponding prongs on the charger.
Being a junior firefighter, I'm not exactly on the top of the list to get the best equipment. I've tried talking to other people in my company to get it fixed but just ended up going home with a second battery.
Has anyone else had any problems like this with theirs?

Does it help if you put pressure on the top of the pager while in the cradle?

With the other things you have tried, I am tempted to write that you have a bad battery.

I never liked using the rechargeable anyway, I always used alkaline batteries because I can replace that at any time/any where (so long as you have one) whereas you can only charge the pager when it's in the cradle and not with you.

We didn't use the Minitor, we used the original Motorola voice pagers that the minitor replaced, I liked them better. They had the removeable battery so I could use alkalines... not sure if the minitor is the same?

Try another charger. For some reason a few of these chargers would test good, but would not kick out a charge.

Also try a new battery. Could be the battery not taking the charge.

I have also seen thes epagers that would not connect from the charger contacts to the battery for some reason. If you have a Motorola service center or dealer in your area you use for service get them to test the pager.

Try the charger first though. See if one of the other guys can put it in their charger and see if it takes charge.

Sorry for not checking this in a while.
The Minitors do have removeable batteries but they're a strange size, so I can't use an alkaline. I've tried wiggling the pager around, but that doesn't do anything. I know that it's not the charger because I've tried others and I know that it's not the battery because the charger also has a spot for just the battery. Problem is, I can't have the pager on while I'm charging the battery because it must be taken out.
So it has to be the pager, but I got one of the radio guys at my company to take a look at it, and can find nothing wrong with it.

AJ168, can you remove the battery from the pager and put just the battery in the charger? I have a Motorola Timeport 2-way pager and it will not charge while in the cradle. My cradle has a spot in it where you can insert just the battery. I just keep a battery in the charger and just swap when the pager battery gets low.

You said when you go to get it checked out they send ya home with another battery? Why not get another battery from them and leave that in the charger. I understood what you were saying about taking the battery out and charging it.....being on call sux. You cant leave it in the charger because your on call and need the pager on.But if the radio guys have an extra battery for it just leave that in the charger and switch em out every night.
The wire between the battery and the tab on the bottom probly broke off or was a bad solder job .Ive seen it happen on cell phones and ham ht's.

i have the motorola minitor III and i have had no troubles, the II i had before just plain wore out. i am a paid firefighter EMT Lt. so i have to have the top of the line stuff. i understand your frustration. go to your Lt. and tell him you can't possibily respond to calls off duty if your pager is not 100%. good luck to you and be safe..Braxton
