Any idea what model this is and what it's value might be?

Here is a local boat on CL.
"It's time for someone else to enjoy this boat. I'm selling my 1962 16' Aluminum Starcraft boat.

1999 I purchased and replaced the original old tired motor with a 1998 Johnson 40 hp from Outboard Motor Shop in Oakland, CA . Because the boat is aluminum and light it is more than capable of going 25mph, it has enough speed for tubing the kids around a lake and is a great fishing boat.

We added a bimini top that provides great coverage from the sun. Boat comes with ore, vest, depth finder, gas tank, and anchors and a latter for getting back in the boat. We are asking $1,800, or best offer, it does need some tender loving care on the seats, this was one of our projects that never materialized. It a good boat that runs great and it's time for someone else to enjoy."

Looks pretty good to me but I really have no idea if this price is good or bad.
Any insight into these boats would be great. Looking for a project that's not a total wreck. Would like to use the boat a bit as it's fixed up. New paint, flooring, etc. Goal would be to fish and drags kids on tubes.

Thanks.

Maybe an old Jupiter, Falcon, or Viking, but the seating doesn't look quite right. $1800 is fair if that outboard is in as good of shape as it looks.

Welcome, 1Lhorn. It's hard to tell with out measurements, but here's a good starting place. The 1962 brochures - 1962 - a set on Flickr

Based on the seating I'll guess 15' Jet or 16' Stardust.

Actually looking at the brochures I would say its a Starmist/Stardust, Ga hit it on the head.

Not to disagree, Sig, but the Starmist has back-to-back lounge seats and the Stardust has bench seats like the pics above.

Seems like a decent price if the outboard runs well and the interior is in decent shape. (no rotted decking or leaky hull)

I would take it for a sea-trial before purchase to ensure everything checks out, or make your deal contingent on it running well during a sea-trial. Don't hand over any cash until the boat is proven to run well and not leak like a sieve.

Also, titles on boat and trailer are a MUST before buying the boat.

I'm flipping around between the race and here and a couple of other places. I must have misread your post. The Admiral wouldn't say that. :D

She looks to be in great shape, especially the motor. $1800 isn't bad, but it never hurts to haggle. Tell him you don't like the color, or something silly like that. They might knock a few bucks off the top.

Thanks for all the input and for the link to the brochure.
Seems like at that time they made a lot of boats with similar dimensions and purpose. Is there any hierarchy of which ones were desirable and which ones were the stripped down, no frills models?

I like the boat but a couple of criteria that are mandatory.
1. I has to be pretty light. My tow vehicle is a small SUV (Vue) with 3500# tow capacity and I'd like to stay safely below that.

2. It had to fit in a garage that is only about 18 feet long. I can weld so if the tongue of the trailer needs to be modified that's not a big deal. I assume turning the motor fully to one side buys a few extra inches, but I'm afraid a 16 foot would be cutting it pretty close. Any thoughts on whether 18 foot storage is doable?

YOu can add a break away toungue kit, and that whole boat is well under 3500 lbs. My 18' fully rigged out, is at most 2200 880# hull weight 400# trailer weight, 400# motor weight, leave 600#worth of gear easy.

You can probably fit a 16 footer in an 18 foot garage with a folding tongue. You can get weld-on or bolt-on. Fulton 34" Bolt-On Fold-Away Hinge Kit - iboats I'm going to guess she's a 15 footer, so with a folding tongue she should easily fit. I used to stuff a 19 footer in a 20" garage, tight but doable.

All tinnies are desirable. At least with this crowd. :D

There is an easier solution buy a bigger garage the tinny is worth it.

before i agreed on a price, i'd want the ore weighed and to take it to an assay office for a content analysis....:D

+1. These are becoming more and more popular it seems and they're great for letting you squeeze your boat into a tight space.

i just had an idea..... if you set the swing-away extension up to bolt on, you could also fab up a tongue extension that bolts in between the tongue and coupler for launching off beaches or on shallow slope.

Nice looking boat and a motor to boot! I have a 16 and a 20ft garage. My motor is off and the bow fits in just fine the tongue, however, just barley fits. It's all about the trailer, that one seems to have a smaller tongue so it should not be a problem. All else fails, park it on an angle.

Re: Any idea what model this is and what it's value might be?

Update.....after trying to get a hold of the seller without luck I assumed it had been sold. I tried again since the ad remained and it's still available although he says someone came to look at it and did a compression test.
What I learned:
Says that there was a small crack underneath near the rear of the boat which was professionally welded. Other than this he knows of no other hull damage, dents etc. Since I'll be painting it and redoing the interior, I imagine I'd do some kind of sealer over the rivets and seams from the inside.

Says the floor needs to be replaced. I kind of assumed that I'd have to do floor and foam replace so not a deal killer.

Boat use to be white underneath and red on the side but he stripped it and left it. I'd like to go back to original style paint scheme.

Windshield has a few small cracks near the mount holes but minor.

Seats are original and the original configuration. I guess that makes it a stardust?

He believes the motor to be less than 500 hours? Is that a lot or a little?

I'm back and forth on it. I've been thinking about spending a little more for a later model boat like a Lowe or Lund, but those are mostly set up as fishing so it's less family friendly and I imagine newer aluminum like decked out Lund boats are pretty heavy.

I will hopefully be getting a look at it later this coming week. I would offer less than asking likely. He works odd hours so I'm not sure he's going to be willing to do a test drive. I'm not sure I expect it either in a boat this cheap where I will be offering less. I'd at least like to hear the motor run.

Any other thoughts? Thanks.

I would subtract $463.58 from his asking price that was the amount Ijust spent at Lowes for new structure supplies
