My Wife Claire & I would Love to go up into the Canyon It's vital that we go with at least one other "Buddy Boat", who has local knowledge. It's been about 30 years since I've made this trip but it's one of the BEST.
My late Wife & I belonged to a Trailer Boating Group in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles) USPS. For several years on Thanksgiving we would Launch at Temple Bar, set up camp above Sandy Point, have Thanksgiving Dinner on the beach. Then on Friday we would thread our way past the sand bars & currents into the Lower Granite Gorge of the Grand Canyon and make a stop at Separation Canyon. Named for the place where the John Wesley Powell expedition split into 2 groups.
If you've made the trip and would like to do it again, let me know. The boat's, the same one I used before. A 23 ft. Dorsett, Cabin Cruiser, we sleep aboard.

I would love to make the trip again. We've done it many times. The issue right now is the lake elevation being too low to get up through the mouth. Just past Sandy Point there's so much silt you can't see the bottom and your depth finder won't pick up the bottom either so you're driving blind. If the bottom doesn't get you the silt will destroy your impeller. Then there's the Pierce Ferry Rapids right around the corner. To make it through the mouth safely we need about 1135' lake elevation. Pray for snow! :D
