Re: Any messages for the president?
CJY,
I think you do have special responsibilities just as you have noted. I am not trying to pick a fight, but it would seem that an innocent question like "How often does your staff wake you in the middle of the night for an important issue?" would be a pretty cool thing to share with students. I am not assuming that jtex will get the opportunity, but thought you might show a little of that professional neutrality by skipping the shot and using the opportunity seriously. I am, totally OK with Bush jokes. I think the man is a punch line waiting to happen. And you don't have to wait very long . . .
I believe you do owe the public neutrality, and it appears you take that seriously. I, however, do not, so I am not sure how you can argue that our responsibilities are equal. I work in the private sector. If you work for a private school, then I feel entirely different with the exception that we all owe children the whole story. Believe it or not I do attempt to teach my own children both sides of even these political discussions.
What I get cranked up about is the "Bush Lied People Died" carp, and the "Iraq is solely to line Bush's oil buddy's pockets" thing. This is offensive to me as I voted for the man and actually would again, and it should be offensive to all citizens of this country, regardless of political affiliation. I have no specific love or defense mechanism built in for Bush. I would vote for him again for one simple reason: he had the guts to go to Iraq with the info he had. I want those same guts in play when, not if, when Iran steps over the perceived line, and when North Korea does, and when Venezuela gets to the point of those two, or another rogue nation. Some things are black and white to me, evil is one of them. As simple as Bushes mind may be, he absolutely gets that!
