Im burnt on my current career, looking for something different and I do have some driving experience (Cement mixer, tri axle dump - 15 years ago).

FedEx is looking for an O/O of a small 12' under truck in North Carolina, for ground deliveries and claims you can gross $60k year.

I don't expect to get rich here and I'm aware that the O/O business has been hit hard (like most every other business), but it is supposed to rebound as the economy picks up.

Any of you pros see this as a feasible start (I'll need to get a truck) and at least attempt to make end meet? Any other ideas to get started?

Am I crazy?

Marty

You can make a small fortune at o/o but you will have to start out with a large one to do it.

seriously just drive for a company i did for years and now my wifes son-in-law does and is home every friday morn and leaves sun night pays taxes on around 50 grand a year not bad for a transportation engineer

i think since mid 90's this occupation has come back to generate a good living. i can't say from first hand knowledge, but the 3 short yrs i worked for roadway loading/yard switching, the guys i knew made a pretty dam good living. hard work, but if it pays, why not? i do know 2 friends that started in the last 15yrs and they do better than the avg grunt. both have their own houses, 1 has a huge house- works for walmart, regular shift, home every night. runs from GA to FL and back every day. the other works a city route, home every night. maybe SBN can offer some insight on this also, since he drove.

i know ups, fedex, roadway, other big service co's do pay well. back in late 80's i started out at $15+/hr(15.75?) loading the trucks.

Our fedex ground drivers are O/O here in ST. Louis.... Both have nice step vans they have bought. They seem happy, and they say it pays pretty well. (have the same drivers for 2 years, start to get to know them)

Fedex paid for the graphics for their trucks. They said they gave them big white tarps to cover the sides if they ever use the truck for non-personal use.

(just tell your friends you can't use it for personal use or your gonna be the one EVYERONE calls for help when they move!)
