I have what I believe is a 1996 model 225HP Mariner outboard.
I have not been able to find a serial number.
The plate/sticker is missing from the transom mount, and I have checked all the visible freeze plugs on the starboard side of the block, and none of them appear to have anything stamped on them.
I'm pretty sure that it's a 1996 model because I have found stickers/tags on wiring harnesses with late 1995 and 1996 manfacture dates. The boat is a 1996.
I recently replaced all the bleed lines after finding one with a hole in it. The rest at first looked pretty sketchy, like they were dried out and cracking, but upon closer inspection, most of them had black paint on them that makes them look like they were dried out and cracking.
All the freeze plugs were painted, should they be?
I am beginning to wonder if maybe the motor has had a powerhead replaced sometime in the past.
The previous owner gave me all the records he had and there were no repairs more serious than a carb rebuild beyond the routine stuff. The PO was not the original owner.
Is there anyway to identify a serial number range so I can confidently order parts?
Can the ignition ECM part number help? It appears to be original.
What is the difference between the 3.0L carb and the Marathon/Seapro?
Any identifying features?
FaztBullett, any insight?
