Any problems with a 2004 40 hp

I'm looking at a 2004 boat with a Mercury 40 hp 2 stroke, anything I should be looking out for or anyone have any issues with this motor. I haven't seen the boat yet going to look on Sunday. I've read reviews on this motor and some say the motor makes a spark knock type of noise while coming off plane. Thanks for any help.

I have 2001 40 2 stroke(same unit as yours) and other than a couple of lower end seals I have had exactly ZERO problems. Its probably not a knock you hear coming off plane but the lower end gears ratcheting because the boat is going faster than the prop is spinning and that is normal.I WOULD buy another in a second.

The 40/50/60 all use the same power head and are good motors. Do an on-water test if possible.

Thanks for the replies, I pasted on the boat, it wasn't very well taken care of.
