Re: Any problems with e-tec 40?

If you are considering purchase of an E-tec 40 and are already asking if it can be converted to 60, why not ask if it can be updated to 70 because they now offer a 70 2-cylinder. My advice is to buy the 60 or 70 if that's what you need because it will cost you a bundle more to do the conversion -- much more than the initial cost of buying the bigger engine to start with. You will also have a very long warranty that you would void if you modified the 40. The entire E-tec line has been very good right from the git-go.

Im asking for conversion 40=>60 because in my country we have a tax of 1.800$ for boats longer than 17ft and engines stronger than 35 kW (48HP).
I need a bit stronger engine but avoiding the taxe.

I believe the difference is in the ECU. As for the 70 hp it is not in there line up this year. There has been zero problems with the small etecs.

it is probably illegal to tamper with the motor in any way which may affect emmissions ie horse power (depends on the laws of your country). one solution which may work buy a 70 and change decal to 40 this has a risk also. it again depends on laws of your country penalty,s in north america are very high i've heard of up to 25,000 u.s.
best to operate witin the law and avoid all aggrevation.
e-tec engines have had only a couple of minor blips since introduction
new emm program early production 2004 modles
new ground stud early 04
thats about it as of dec 2004 no reported power head failers
