Any tips for freeing a steering cable?

So the little jet boat I picked up ('96 SugarSand Mirage SS) came with steering issues. The boat sat in the saltwater for 6 months and the cable has seized. I've just received a new helm (previous owner thought it needed strength to free the "steering wheel") and now I'm down to a stuck cable. I've shot some PB Blaster in both ends and I've loosened it, but still can't get it to plunge on either end. Am I fighting a losing battle here and should I just order a new one? I know they're available and only $55.00, but it's the process of removing the old one and feeding the new one in that I'd like to avoid if I can. I've had someone say apply some heat to it, but I'd imagine that means pulling it out, and I guess if that's the case, it's probably best to just replace it. The sad thing is, it's not worn out by any means, just gummed up. Anybody got any surefire tips or are you telling me to quit being a cheapskate and get the new one ordered?;)

For the record, if I do have to just replace it, then I understand the best way is to "tie the new to the old" so that when I remove the old one it will snake the new one into it's place.:D

I think that even if you were able to get this cable working, you would have to address the same problem again, corrosion doesn't go away.

Ocassionally they can be freed up, but they'll never be right or safe again. They aren't that expensive. Replace them.

y'up, I ordered one, as much to my dismay as it looks like they've poured the fiberglass AROUND the cable (not really, but.....) in the whole boat. Oh well, here comes the plumber's snake.
