We usually stay out on water even after dark but every-time we go to eat at the marina grill we return to a boat with condensation all over all the glass. Not a big deal just takes time to clear so we can take off safely.

Is this something just have to deal with or are there easier ways maybe 12 v hair drier or defrost heater.

Maybe some towels over the glass? or cover with plastic wrap and just pull off when ready.

Rain-X helps. The beads are larger and tend to run off by themself.

LOL haven't seen any yet.

Hadn't thought of squeegee though. Towels don't do much but smear unless I use bunches of dry ones that is.

Try Scott fog free solution. We use it on our goggles for night time MX racing and in the rain, never fogs up. Can be found at Motorcycle dealerships. Yes a hairdryer and fan would help.just have to start as soon as it starts to fog up. The Scott spray may be the solution.

Try a couple of drops of sunlight dish detergent on a damp paper towl, rub the inner surface of the windshield, the soap breaks the surface tension of the water making it sheet instead of bead. Old commercial fisherman told me this trick,it works.

Be smart about lighting. I assume you mean interior "courtesy lights", which can certainly be cool... but it's recommended that you use red or some other color as it helps retain night vision.

I know it sounds weird - but the best thing I've found for keeping helmet shields fog free is lemon pledge. (OK, any pledge polish, but I like the lemon scent best). Spray it on, buff it off. At first it will look terrible, but keep buffing.

Yes I will be using Red & some white Thanks for the suggestion though. The boat also already has incandescent lighting just not enough IMO.

I wouldn't recommend a hair dryer. I cracked a bathroom mirror, trying to unfog it with a hair dryer once. Too much heat in 1 spot.

Re: Any tips on clearing condensation off glass

i do night boating. and the condensation can be bad for sure. specially on the next morning. my self. i just us a beach towel. seems to work ok. what it does leave behind is no worse than boating in the rain w/o a windshield wiper. + what's left eventually evaporates.

as to the lighting. i don't have any lights other than my dash lights. which are old style incandescent white in my oem mercruiser gauges. imho. this is too much white light. night vision is very important for night boating. white light ruins night vision. seeing things while boating at night can be deceiving to say the least. white light is gonna make it worse... if i had to have some extra light, red, i think is they way to go. for my boat, if i did anything lighting wise to it i'd put a dimmer on my dash lights. which still wouldn't do anything for my white stern light which also ruins my night vision.

Maybe you can get some electric heat strips. Like used for fish tanks and terrariums. They stick on the glass (I would put them around the edges) and come in many voltages 12, 24, 120.

Re: Any tips on clearing condensation off glass

The best and simplest advice was to just lay a beach towel over it when you leave. When you get back take the towel off and you're ready to roll. I do that when I have an early start and leave the boat in a slip overnight. Works great. Throw something over the seats too.
