I am interested in a new project boat and they have quite a few. One specific in mind, but being 13 hours away doesn't help. Any dealing with them, good or bad would be appreciated.

thanks,
chad

Re: anybody dealt with lanier marine in ga?

I have. My Lund and Johnson came from there. The descriptions are generous at best. This boat came from there.
lb3.jpg

And yet there description said:
...Good interior... minor hole in floor... just needs your outboard motor system... upholstry in good condition...

Yes, that was the picture included with the ad.
Sure. The deck was rotten, the seats were toast, and the console was so rotten and saggy, that the winshield had no chance of closing. Not to mention the flotation foam, that all in all, weighed close to 900#.
Of course, we looked at the boat in person, and were looking for a project.
Moral is, don't believe the description. Just the pictures.
Other than that, they are fairly nice, there is room for bargaining as some of the prices are extronious. They do have odd little knicknacks from old boats.
Which boat ya got in mind? I may have seen it in person, and I have pored over many boats on my last visit.

this is there description:

1974 Fiberform 19' Bowrider, 19' Make Offer , This classic looking trihull Bowrider just needs your Outboard motor system, the Evinrude 135 Hp Strangler in the pictures is sold and gone, so it's not included. But we have other outboards available for extra. All blue interior with seats and carpet in good shape, solid floor, and trihull hull may need some buffing. Has a compass, Humminbird depth finder, and Tempo gas tank! It weights around 2,050 Lbs.

unless you just want this particular boat. i think you can find something closer to home. the weight they quote, is from nada boats, when the boat was new. it could have 500 lbs of water in the foam. . it's rated for a 120hp. there is little resale value there, as it is. nothing to scrap. it's going to be a long trip home, as it wouldn't pull that trailer very fast with out a good inspection. it's a project boat just like Bassboy1's.

Bass boy1, extronious? big word.

i agree with you tashasdaddy, the only value the boat will have is to me when it is done. I am looking for a large outboard tri-hull for some time with not much luck. it doesn't have to be a tri-hull, but the river and lake i live on has alot of shallow water so its hard to find a shallow draft boat of significant size. A deck boat would be ideal but prices are way out of my range. where did you find the max hp rating? A 120 on that boat seems very small.

Chad, I have been boating on Lanier for 30 years and I have never heard anything good about lanier marine..If Ottie Stringer still works there then I would beware...

yup, keeping my eye on ebay. just missed a few.

I talked to lanier a few times. They are hard to get info out of. Kind of got the "what do you want for 300 bucks" attitude. I know its junk, but for my drive, I need to know how bad of junk it is. Maybe a good time to pass on this.

If it just gets warm enough, can get the old silverline out and break this spring feaver. might help me to be patient.

Also consider the 300 dollar boat will be 600 or more by the time you add your gas expense. Also the old trailer could be a nightmare on the trip home.

yea, I figured the trip will cost about 400 bucks if all goes well. Like that will happen.

I haven't actually seen that, but I would shy away. As there listed prices are often through the roof, 300 must mean something is wrong. Plus, I doubt the trailer is included, as they sell trailers, for a minimum of 350, including old rusty ones with different size wheels. But, if you want a tedious, complete redo, and don't mind haggling, go ahead. You can stumble out with a good deal.

Re: anybody dealt with lanier marine in ga?

oh, and bassboy1, I started to haggle with them and we ended up with the 300 bucks for the boat and trailer. If they sell junk trailers for 350, I would hate to see this combo. I think I better stay away from this one. Don't need to drive to ga to bring something back to my local landfill.

thanks,
chad
