I've got a lot of gelcoat to put back. In different shapes, on the outer hull and on the interior. I'm reshaping the little bitty bilge, gonna put in a splashwell, and coat the water side with gelcoat (over glass). The idea of taping a zillion little saran wrap seals is not too appealing. So I found a source for bulk, powdered Poly Vinyl Alcohol. It was pretty reasonable. Water soluble sealant. It washes off after the gelcoat has set. PVA. OK.... it comes in powdered form. The best I can come up with is to use 4 to 5 % by weight. I don't have a set of lab scales, so I'm a little lost here. Can I reconstitute by volume?? Anybody got a clue as to what proportion I make the solution??? Anybody ever messed with this stuff??

I've never seen it in powder form. I think it would be easier to just get some wax solution.

It does come in powdered form. I've got 2 lbs of it. Research shows science teachers use it to make slime for the kids. But they reconstitute with scales, by weight. I'll do some more poking around. It is used by gelcoat repair people to temporarily seal the stuff so it will cure out. Washes off with water, not wax remover. That's what appealed to me. The pre-sanding, pre-paint wax remover I bought was unbelievably expensive.I appreciate the input, but not gonna buy another sealant. Will make do. Thanks, KR
