I'm looking at an older model three wheel electric golf cart to convert to a light duty utility vehicle. I'm wondering if it would be stout enough for very light hauling(it has a little bed). Also, I have a pretty steep hill on my property and I wonder if it would be able to pull up it.
Anybody got any experience with one of these? Also, what about battery maintenance? Thanks for any bits of wisdom you might share.

Thanks for asking, Ron. The back is holding its own so far. I'm working my way back into shape. It ain't as easy as it used to be, but I shouldn't complain. I guess I'm in pretty decent condition for an old f@rt. :)

The three wheeler might be a little top heavy / unstable on steep slopes. That is why they went to the four wheelers.

MIL has one to go up and down her steep driveway but it is a 4 wheeler,

If you go to fast down the hill, which is very very easy to do you skid out into the road.

They have replaced the batteries and the some electrical component -

If you are gettting it used, like they did, they found out they were near the end of the components - which is why it was for sale while it still worked...

They have a low gear which will help them up hills - plus they had to pull those light weight golfers around.

You have to also buy the charger that goes with them you cannot use a regular charger -

tomatolord

I have one, but its far from stock anymore. It now has a 1200cc Artic Cat motor in it ;) You can ride wheelies as long as you have the sand to hold down the go pedal. :) But you should be fine, the ones I have played with are built pretty stout. I think they take into consideration the state of most golfers when on the greens, if you know what I mean :)

I don't know what you plan to but in the bed, put they are designed to handle hills. I have been on some hilly golf courses. My point is on a golf course they have to handle two golfers plus clubs which easily be 600# and go up and down hills for 4-5 hours.

We used one at the airport I worked at as a kid.
Would often cruise around the grounds or set up a slolom course through some trees on a hilly area when things were slow.
Lots of fun for a teenager & they will tip if pushed hard, even though a bar acted as a skid to keep it from going over. No problem w/ distance as long as it was plugged in daily.
If hilly I would consider 4 wheels.
My uncle has a small utilty vehicle like a golf cart except it has a gas powered engine that starts when you press on the gas pedal. Very handy & quiet w/ no charging required, just an occasional fillup.

Thanks to all for the input and advice. I believe I'll give the old thing a try. I'll post later with the results of this endeavor.
