I've got a Dell Quay Dory eurosport 15' with an Evinrude 70 hp VRO.

I believe this is similar to a Boston Whaler.

Manufactured in Poole, Dorset, England.

Which came first. Boston Whaler or Dell Quay Dory ??

Great Boat .

philby.
The dell came first which should have a foam core making it unsinkable. Don't let water ingress to the foam though as you can kiss your boat goodbye as the foam can soak up three quarters of a ton of water!
I have seen a water-logged dellquay break its back after being bought up the slip after a summer on a mooring. If you look after the water tightness of all hull & deck fittings you'll have a good sea boat.

good luck
G

Re: Anybody got a Dell Quay Dory ?

Somebody at my marina wants to sell a Dell Quay Dory with a 115 hp [2-stroke] Suzuki for US$2,600/xx. The boat and engine is in bad shape. I am thinking of restoring it but I am not sure how the boat will ride in choppy water. Anybody have any experience with Dell Quay Dory ride in choppy water.

15 foot is rated for engine up to 80 hp, so I imagine this is a 17 foot boat.

To be honest it is the safest feeling boat I have ever had. It is heavy enough to cut through choppy waters, and are sold as unsinkable.

Never had to disprove that fact myself, but I runthis with my four children on boatd and I've had many a boat I wouldn't feel that confident with.

I would reccomend them.

Philby,
Dory's are renowned for being uncomfortable when motoring accross a swell. Unlike a deep "V" hull it will not cut through the swell but ride over it like a tea tray. Once stopped it provides a good steady platform to fish from, although this does not deminish "V" hulls in any way.
Simply ask yourself are you expierienced enough to handle any craft in an upcoming squall? Or do you wish to be sat in a craft that will point and ride better at an increased speed and comfort?
Dell quay are the best of their era but its the boats weather limits you must consider.

I stand corrected.

Personally i have a Eurosport, as you know halfway between a deep V and a "tea tray "

Great in choppy water in my experience. If ther is a big swell I'm at home reading the paper.

I have a 13ft. 4in. Dell Quay, a 1985 that I have owned since 1999. It is a great boat, fairly light, fast with a 50hp. Tohatsu, unsinkable. Its a keeper for me. I dont think I will ever part with it.

Gav, are you certain the Del Quay came before the first Boston Whaler?

Boston Whalers showed up in 1959. When did the first Del Quays come along?
