Anybody got any experience with a manufacturer known as Sea Raider?

Looking at a 1987 Sea Raider with an OMC sterndrive. Fellow indicated that they where manufacturered in Cleveland and Sandusky, OH....but no longer. Would you share your experience/opinions please Thanks.

run away.

it is an OMC.....out of business.

the hull (while i have not fixed one yet) will be a standard stringer design).

as long s the hull is well kept and stored properly,,,,it will be fine.
but check for soft spots in the floor with the next one you look at....

but any thing that says omc on it.....just forget it.

I have a '90 model Sea Raider. Mine however, has a Mercruiser 4.3/Alpha 1. I researched the company and they were made in Sandusky OH. I can't remember the name of the company but they are out of business. They are not as refined as some manufactueres but I don't mind. I'm with Oops, stay away from the OMC. They have been out of business for 10+ years and parts are hard to come by.

Tomdinwv....other than the 'kiss of death' to the OMC motor....what do you think of the boat? It has been my desire to get a boat of this length (21'), with this type of hull design (more traditional....a bit more of a forefoot, deeper V- heavy weather) type so that I could single hand it around the great lakes.....I've got a rinker cuddy right now....just a bit skiddish about taking it out the Lakes and getting caught in nasty weather..... would you buy another if you had a chance? Thanks.

I have an 86 Sea Raider. Merc/Alpha 1. I have owned the boat for 12 years. The boat is just run of the mill. I have seen other boats with the same hull but different names. Mine is a 17' bow rider. It has been retired/stored for a few years.

Hey ****, I bought the boat dirt cheap knowing it would need some work. Mine is a 19' cuddy. The PO did not winterize the engine and it was junked. I've got another engine set down in mine and just need to finish hooking everything up. The hull seems to be solid and in decent enough shape. No cracks or bad places in the gel coat etc... I have not had this one out on the water yet. I just bought it this past winter so I can't comment about the ride or handling. I hope to have mine up and running by the end of the week.

Would I buy another Sea Raider? Sure, if it was in good condition. I purchased this one knowing it needed an engine and some other work. If I had found another brand of boat for around the same price, needing the same work, I may have gone a different direction though. Good luck!!
