Anybody Have This Happen?

Good Morning All,

2000 50 ELPTO - I understand a number of these voltage regulators/rectifiers have failed over the years. Rectifier was totally fried and we're probably lucky it didn't start engine on fire. So I replaced rectifier and a couple melted bullet connectors only to find that the starter solenoid had failed also. Put new solenoid on yesterday and now engine cranks over fine but will not start.

Any known, common problems I should be looking for? I'll pull spark plugs today to see if they're firing, but am I overlooking something obvious that would be related to the regulator catastrophically failing?

Thanks in advance...

After (sheepishly) reattaching the fuel line inadvertently left off, engine starts, runs now. Spark plugs were pretty gunked up and gap exceeded 0.040" so replaced same. Original problem was leaking water line from the head to the telltale fitting (owner had been sticking wire in to clear blockage). Several wires, connectors under water in the bottom cowling I assume caused regulator to short. Failed fifteen-year-old solenoid was a coincidence. All good again except tachometer not working...
