No matter how hard that the networks tried to make Alberto a hurricane and a significant news item, they only made themselves look like buffoons. Even the locals wouldn't go along with it and just kept referring to it as a rainstorm.

If they keep over-hyping each tropical depression, no one will be paying any attention when a real hurricane comes along.

CD

I tend to agree, except with the sophisticated satelite imagery they have available, No one should confuse Alberto with Katrina or Rita, no matter how hard the baseball cap on the reporter is flopping around.

FTR, on MSNBC for example, pretty early on they were saying it was bring Florida much needed rain.

It's shocking that the networks would be anything less than completly honest with us. ;)

Hummm, I wonder if the insurance companies were behind this, remember, when the National Weather Service says, "hurricane" your homwowners or wind policy insurance deductible jumps UP and you could pay all the damage. Just a thought,,, ;)

Re: Anybody Notice?

Most of the hurricane damage, and virtually all of it I would guess in the case of Alberto, was caused by flooding in coastal areas.

None of that is covered, at least by standard homeowner's.

Could it be that more people watch during some event like this rather that some blowhard politician spouting his propaganda, and that with better ratings they get to charge more for ad time?

And who exactly would have been fooled into thinking this was the storm of the century?

Insurance is a big consideration. It was explained here, that even the diagnosis of "tornado", rather than "high winds" makes a big difference in homeowners coverage.
