I've just heard on the radio that some vehicles are floating free and there's a salvage boat picking up what they can!
Ross

Update on the story

Another ship hit the sunken car carrier. The tugs weren't around and this German ship ran into the car carrier. It is free now and is going to try to make it to home port. The sunken ship is only visible during low tide.

Re: Anybody order a car?

Another reason to buy American.

Never had this problem with my F350...

wait a minute....several weeks after receiving my truck, someone at the railroad (or in transportation somewhere) screwed up big time. Train went in a tunnel. This is normally not a problem, but with a load full of F350 4x4, they were a little too tall. Pics I saw had the cabs smashed big time. Glad I had already received my truck!

A couple of years ago a load of car/trucks coming
across the prairies got shot up on the train by some kids, they wrote them off and sent the chassis to mechanical training centers for apprentices. I am told it happens from time to time.

Where i went to college for auto body and collision repair, the school had a car donated to them that was loaded incorrectly on a car carrier. The first overpass it reached, the car became a convertible.

The GM plant I worked at did the same thing for my high school. One fell off the car carrier and was donated to the school. Not the top rack of course. There were a few accidents. Someone lost control of a fork lift during a fork lift race and put the forks through a car. They also destroyed the first test run cars that are for setting up the machines for new models etc. They had all the options. I heard of the putting them into a crusher due to changes that had to be made because of thing learned on the first run. It was probably for the best though. I can say the guys with the fork lifts have 2 speeds. Off and "to the metal". They drive backwards because it would be too easy to wipe out with the rear steering especially with a huge load.
They had a couple huge fork lifts too. One ran on the second floor of the plant. The whole floor would shake when it went by. There was a bathroom that was actually hung from the underside of the second floor to save floor space. When you were in the there and the fork lift went by, you just prayed that the bathroom did not break free and fall to the floor with you in it. I had a lot of experience with that after that food poisoning incident.

I thought they were gaurding the ship so that no other ships hit it. You would think they learned the first time. What about outting out a bulleting with the GPS coordinates on it?

Re: Anybody order a car?

Todays TV news showed a french speaking fisherman stating his views that the watch keeper must have been asleep along with the skipper. He said they (french fishermen) have to buy expensive equipment to ensure just this type of thing doesn't occur. Yet these big ships just appear to plow right in!
Surly there's maratime bullitens transmitted over the air and aren't radio operators supposed to moniter the airwaves for just this kind of thing?
Ross
