Anybody remember this West Bend/Chrysler AD?

I think it was right after Chrysler took over the West Bend motors and called them Chryslers.

The ad (in magazines..) showed the powerhead of an OMC engine...and then a similiar rated WestBend/Chrysler.

They purposely picked an OMC that was just crammed with wires, hoses and linkages all over the place. The WB/C was truly spartan by comparison.

The ad copy went on to say how superior Chrysler's engineering was: simplicity shows good engineering.

At the time; I believed that they had a point. I had a West Bend 45HP on my Alpex...and it ran great...never gave me any problems.

Funny though for Chrysler to take the credit; they had taken over West Bend and pretty much just put their name on the cover. If there was any superior engineering under there...it was none of their doing.

Anybody got that ad? I'd like to see it again.

Thanks for reading, Chuck

I've never seen this ad, but I have to agree.
I have a 1963/64 West Bend 35 HP, and it's more of a motor than my 1969 Evinrude 40HP. The Evinrudes seem to be plagued with lower end problems compared to the West Bend/Chryslers.
My dad has a 12 HP West Bend that runs great. Somebody asked him once about what steps he takes to winterize it for easier starting the next season; he replied " I put it in the shed in the fall, and take it out in the spring."
