I have about had it with this motor!! I am still getting water in my L/U!! I just purchased the motor from an individual about 3 months ago. Honestly, i dont have time nore the money to replace my L/U seals IF that is even where the water intrusion is coming from!! Anyways it isnt a crap load of water because i have ran it about 4 times since the last oil change and my oil had a tint of white to it, it did not look like vanilla ice cream, so there was still some oil with it. My question is this, can i just change my L/U oil/vent and drain seals about 4 times a year and be safe withy out finding the water intrusion. i want be able to afford the replacement parts/time until this winter to break down my L/U! However, i want to be able to run the boat this summer!! What do yall think?? I mean walmart oil sae 80w-90 and seals only cost me about $5. So I assume to just change it about every 5th trip until i can save the money up and get the lower unit resealed! OR am i just asking for trouble by doing this!! Thanks in advance!

*The engine is a 70 hp force!

it actually takes less time than you would think to rebuilt a lu. it took me about 3 hours for my mercury 80, using a manual.
however, if that isn't possible you could try to put new drain seals and oil in, take it out and see how much water gets in.

i am NO expert, but if it were me, i would change the l/u seals. if there is one thing i've learned about anything mechanical, "a small problem WILL become a bigger problem unless it's fixed." for ex: my heat alarm went off a couple of times while trolling last weekend, even though the motor pumps very good, i've decided to change out the pump/ impeller & maybe even a new thermostat & heat sensor. to me, that's better than cooking the motor.

I'd have it pressure tested to see where the water is coming in from then repair it properly. Get a manual they're not too scary. You might be able to make it through this summer but it won't be working right next year if you don't fix it!
