Up until this year, I towed our 19 1/2 foot I/O with my 4.7 L Durango. The Durango was my work beater until I changed jobs and needed an economy car to commute. I set up my wife's 2008 Pontiac Torrent, AWD 3.4 L, to tow the boat. Installed a Curtis Class III on the factory mounting points, what a slick installation. I retrieved the boat from storage this morning and was quite surprised how it towed. The Torrent is rated for 3500 pound and I am guessing that my boat, single axle escort trailer (with brakes), equip weigh around 3000 - 3400 pound. I live about 5 to 6 miles from the boat launch so it's only about a 10 minute tow. The Durango and Torrent are rated at about the same horsepower, 185, but the V6 doesn't the grunt that the small V8 did in the Durango. The Pontiac owners manual also recommends towing with the gear selector in the I position. Works okay but the RPM bounces around. I have a 500 foot paved driveway up to our home and I always used low range in the Durango. Don't have that in the Torrent.
