Anyone ever had this happen?

I was out today changing out the gear lube in the stern drive and once I was finished I noticed that my zinc anode was gone. It was there when I put the drive back on the boat. Why would someone steal that. It is such an inexpensive part. Now I definitely will be putting a prop lock on.

I've had them fall off - but I cannot imagine someone stealing one. Air conditioners... yep. Copper wiring.... yep. Zincs... nope.

In my neck of the woods, the crackheads will steal anything.

Seems to me if they came prepared with the necessary tools, there would have been a whole lot of other things more worthy of stealing. Anyone in your neighborhood have a similar boat.....

They fall off from time to time, for no reason. Not sure what anode you are talking about, but the anode in the anti-ventilation plate seems to be the one that will "just be gone". The ones on the trim cylinders don't do that. If you have a propnut anode, they can fall off too.
I HIGHLY doubt anyone stole it. It is possible, but i doubt it.

I lost a trim anode in 2 hours running, brand new! I use red loctite on them now

Hi there no one steal that just fall off happen to me three times until I use red loctite that will keep it there

After giving it careful consideration I figure it fell off as well. I hope no one intentionally stole the anode. In any event I just ordered a new one and will do as mentioned here and install it with red loctite as well and see if it disappears.

A brand new one fell off and trashed my new prop. I was happy that the shop replaced everything for free.
