I recently purchased the Nissan 90hp motor, 1995 model, and the factory steering cylinder is locked up on it. Because of this, the previous owner installed a 'Sea Star' Hydraulic steering system.

Well, he left the cylinder/piston connected to the motor when he sold it, and kept all of the hydraulic lines so he could use them on his new motor.

Where can I get information on this product, and how hard is it to install these lines?
How expensive?

Or, would I be better off just buying a new FACTORY steering piston/cylinder?

Thanks
Shawn

Sea Star is Teleflex hydraulic steering and top-of -the-line stuff. It's normally used on boats with a lot more hp. then yours but here the site. See what you think.

Sea Star

c/6

Hooty

It's not hard to install, especially if you have a exploded view of the system to go by. But they are very expensive in terms of parts. The hoses are like 90.00 alone.

So, in other words,it would probably be cheaper for me to just un-freeze the factory tilt tube, and clean it up, and reinstall it, right?

The reason I ask is the factory tilt tube is corroded and frozen, but it has an aftermarket Sea Star Cylinder on it. If it was cheap/easy enough to just go with the Sea Star stuff, I would...but from what you're saying is it isn't cheap.

Therfore, I may just go ahead and try to unfreeze the tilt tube...

Thanks
Shawn

You can go ahead and get a price for the helm station, you got the transom parts, and I believe any hydraulic shop could make hoses for you - you will have a great steering with no play and very little transmission loss.
