A friend is looking at an '89 model 28' Mach 1...The boat has a 454 with Bravo I/O and has been sitting for some time on a dealers lot as a consignment boat. Asking price is $12,995...neither of us knows anything about the builder. Any info appreciated. Also, is this year (89)during the time that Merc had corrosion issues with the Bravo drives? Thanks in advance.

John;

I have an '87 Mach 1 (Concorde, 27') but, because of its age, I only have Alphas behind my 454's--so I can't help you with that aspect. But I do have a joke of an owner's manual and would suggest you look at the NADA price guides online. They allow you to list equipment and calculate an approximate value for the boat, and trailer if included. I would most heartily suggest a 'sea trial' to make sure it is good mechanically. I paid for a marine surveyor on mine but, because it was not in the water, I did not take it out and footed a heafty repair bill to get it in running shape (my bad). I have spoken to a few other owners and they seem to feel it is a good boat--built well and solid feeling.

I have an 88 mach 1 with a 454 and a bravo drive. Nice boat in ruff water. Mine was a prject when I bought it so I wasnt worried about any running condition. 13000.00? seems kind of high without knowing if the interior is new or engine or drive is rebuilt

1989 was one of the earliest years for the Bravo series of drives. The corrosion was more apparent with the Bravo 3 drive which has the dual propeller setup. All of that extra stainless steel from the 2nd propeller caused accelerated corrosion of those drives. I'm not familiar with Mach 1 but it sounds like a performance boat, which means it probably has a Bravo 1. That doesn't mean you shouldn't check for corrosion, especially if it was used or sat in saltwater for extended periods of time.

I had an old 89 mach 1 with a volvo penta 3.0 it was ok but insurance was high because it was considered a high output boat go figure

I just viewed the video. Nice! Do you know how fast it will go? My speedo doesn't work yet, so I'm basically in the dark as to speed. I know I don't have a "built" 454, but I DO have two of them....

With 1/4 tank of gas and 2 guys 80 mph is about it. You have twins? Can you email me some pics of where and how they are mounted? I'm adding another built 454, TIA, Bob
