anyone have a flywheel key?

i installed my new stator tonight then i seen that the small half moon key for the flywheel was sheared! :( does anyone have an extra one of these laying around that wouldnt mind selling it to me?<br /><br />its a 1990 120hp force by us marine

Go to a local mercury dealer. Part number is 28-F85498-1. Cost is about 3 bucks.

cool thanks..any idea why it sheared? i did take off the flywheel to put a new trigger on..maybe i didnt install it right or something.

They will shear if the flywheel is not torqued tight enough.

hmm..that could be it roscoe..i didnt torque it at all...i put it back on with a big cresent wrench lol it was pretty tight though...what is torque for it?and how can you torque these things when the flywheel wants to turn on you the whole time?

yes the flywheel key will be sheared if not torqued to the proper ft/lbs. the best way to keep the flywheel from turning is to get a flywheel holder.you will also need a good torque wrench.I would think, you could get that key at any hardware store. <br />javsam

I dont have the spec for a force but it is probably 90 foot lbs.
