I have an open deck 18 foot tri hull...

Has anyone installed one of those barbeque grills on a small boat ? I can imagine them on a yacht or something big. But would it look awkward on an 18 footer ?

If you have done so, please post pictures and what are your thoughts on the barbeque? It seems it's all I would need to complete a trip :)

And where to install it on a small deck boat? towards the back or the front ?

Have one on a pontoon. 22 footer. Works great. Sorry, no pic.

We have it hanging out over the water but it is still easy to access. It is propane and uses the camping type propane bottles.

I have a gas grill I attach to my SS rail along the open bow of my boat. I've now had the same grill on this boat and my last one. The clamp just attaches to the rail and easily comes off leaving no marks on the rail. I have the round party size Magma grill.

Better off using it towards the front of the boat and away from the motor and fuel tanks. It hangs over the side so any drippings do not get into the boat. I think it cost about $250 including the mount and storage bag. All high quality SS and so far has held up really well as long as it's cleaned properly after each use.

LOL! Now THAT's the way to do it! Forget the charcoal, lighter fluid and danger of fire! Just fire up the Honda and plug in the Foreman grill!

What size is the Honda? It obviously has enough to fire the Foreman but does it have any reserve power? Thanks!

I had a glasply that I put a rod holder in, the Magma Grill has a Bracket designed to fit in them and hold the BBQ out over the side of the boat.
Depending on your particular boat, there are Several different bracket styles to mount the BBQ.
I never took any pictures, but if you go to the links above you will see what they look like, then choose what fits.

don s - So now I am thinking of getting the Marine kettle 2 combination stove and gas grill as you suggested. With the power grip fish rod holder mount, when I pull the kettle out, is there anything that will protrude ? I ask, because I have a 4 yr old who likes to run around and jump off. I don't want him slip and sliding onto something somewhere in the front of the boat and hitting it.

I was also thinking of getting the bigger magma grillls (rectangular ones not round) but this might be too big for an 18footer...

With the fish rod holder mount, is that all I need to order ? I don't have any rod holders at all in my boat if you know what I mean. I get the idea that this is an adapter to fit into a rod holder ? What exactly would I need ?

If you are refering to the one pictured below, nothing protrudes. Once you remove the BBQ bracket with that big wing nut, the whole thing comes out of the rod holder and you can again use the rod holder for fishing.

Yea, I thing the rectangular one would be a little big for an 18' boat. Don't forget, you have to store it on board someplace when not in use.

ok don, so I am sold on the round grill. and it's good nothing protrudes.

Can you give me a link for the actual rod holder that the wingnut assembly plugs into so I can make sure I buy the right one.

Also, is this "rod holder" (or what ever it is called) sealed in the bottom ? I want to make sure I don't get any water into the inside of the hull.

Thanks again and can't wait to start grilling in the water in February (that's when we get good water here in the philippines).

I have a Wellcraft sportsman 180 bow rider and I have a grill. Sorry no pics but it is the small kettle gas grill from West Marine. I have it mounted with the rod holder bracket. It is all stainless steal. Heats up very fast. Does well in the wind. They also sell canvase bags for them as well for easy storage. (Get the bag one size larger then what the recomend. You then can store all your utensils and extra gas bottle in the bag.)I keep mine in the water ski locker in the floor. My total set up is about $300.00.Its a little pricy but its a good set up and good quality. Good luck .. ohh by the way.. I take mine medium rare. :D

I don't have one yet, but I was planning to put one of those propane ones that attaches to the bow rail on, does that count?
