Anyone have a Lowrance LMS 320?

Just wondering if anyone has one of these and, if so, how do you like it? I'm in the market for a new graph and am considering picking one up. Also, if I get one, should I get the dual frequency model? I do a lot of lake and river fishing, and also hit Lake Michigan (sometimes over 200' deep) occasionally. Thanks!

I have a LMS 320DF. I like it, but then it replaced a 1990 Interphase, so I don't have much to compare it with. If you fish less than 300', you probably don't need the DF, but, why not have the capability? What I like is the GPS part. The thing has the world pre-loaded in it. It is right on with the bouys I need to find if the fog drops suddenly.

Thanks JRJ. I agree with you about the "why not have the capability" if it's only another $50 or so. I have been using a handheld Lowrance GPS, which serves the purpose and will still be good for a backup. Any of the pictures of the LMS 320 I've seen show it with a screen split between the GPS and the graph. There are full-screen graph or GPS modes, isn't there? Thanks again and tight lines!

There are sever different screens you can display. If you'd like to read the owners manual before you buy you can down load it at their website. I love mine so far. I'm now wanting to buy the navionics chip for it but, i havent heard anything about them.
Here is the link to the manual.
All you need is adobe.. :)

What would be nice is if you could download depth contour charts (is that what they're called?) for specific lakes.

Yes they have them Navionics makes them. I've heard they are good just havent seen one first hand. And they are very pricey.
www.navionics.com
I'm looking into buying the gold for offshore use.
The one your looking for is the hotmaps.

If you haven't done it yet, go to the Lowrance site and you can download a 320 simulator. I ordered a Navionics chart for Calif/Oregon coast. When I get to try it out, I'll let you know what I think. I've heard the detail is very good.

Howdy, I have the LMS-320 DF and Love it!!! has brought me back in the through very thick fog...

Have a friend who also has the eagle 320df...

They are the exact same unit. lowrance makes both, but the eagle is around 100 bucks cheaper.

You might want to look into it, could save you a few pennies..
d

Yeah, my handheld Lowrance has an Eagle "counterpart" too. I got my Mom one a few years ago. It looks virtually identical, but has fewer waypoints (who uses all of them anyway?!) and some of the "windows" in the menu are a little different. Just enough to trip me up when I was trying to give her a little training on how to use it!

Well i found a shop locally that deals in marine electronics. I'm going over there tomorrow to talk with a sales man. I'll let him run me thru all the features of the navionics chip and if i like it i'm sold! I'll fill ya in on it sometime next week.

So Hopsdak, do you fish in the Gulf? My wife and I are leaving tomorrow to go visit my Mom and stepdad. We'll be spending a week in Ensenada, fishing in the Pacific. Probably a lot of bottom fishing, but will try for some yellowtail and possibly some yellowfin & albacore if the seas are conducive! Sure wish I could talk them into investing in a radar for their little Crestliner. . .

Re: Anyone have a Lowrance LMS 320?

Most of my fishing is in the bays for reds, flounder, and trout.
I went and had a look at the navionics gold charts. Looks like they won't work with the lms-320. Their older charts will work and from looking at them they look great. The tide position doesn't work on the older style. It does list the markers and bouys r for red and g for green and #'s, Bottom contures/depth,and More detail outline of the shore lines. I'm pretty sure that the freshwater maps have more detail than the saltwater ones. Just make sure that they make one for your lowrance. I should have mine in a week or so as they were out of them when i went in to buy one. :(
