On how to properly mount the transducer on the back of the boat for a 525 Humminbird??? Works right when running down the lake, but will be working fine while fishing(showing the correct depth) & all of a sudden it shows 1 foot or .8 or .9 ft.. Then after a little of this it straightens out & works fine for a while. The only other thing on the back of the boat is the speedo & it's to the left of the transducer. Boat is a 1993 Sprint 255. If someone could tell me how to properly mount the transducer I would appreciate it. It was put on by a buddy of mine & possibly could not be right. Thanks

Do you have a picture of it or do you know if the transducer is mounted a touch below the bottom of the boat? It sounds like it's mounted a little to high.

I have a Hummingbird unit with the Hockey puck type of transducer, what do you have with your unit?

If the transducer sees "air" if even for a minute, it goes "TILT".
The transducer needs to be mounted as close to the centerline of the boat as possible and at a 90 degree angle to keel.

When does it go crazy, backing, circling in prop wash or rocking in trough? Above is 100% correct about bubbles. makes them go haywire. Again, even with bottom and closest possible to deepest part of boat out of the way of trailer supports. Ideally you would have an extension block on your transom angled same and the hole for your transducer drilled vertically. A few degree's in deep water can make a big difference in depth reading.
