I have been looking for the one tool that cuts the transom for the x-deminsion. Since I had to replace my transom, stringers and floor I converted from an outboard to an I/O. The tool is pictured. I would love to rent it or just borrow it, I will get it back to you.Scan 112230000.jpg

Ayuh,.... That's an Ok, pretty cool tool,..

I've done quite a few transoms Without it though...

I have an ole chunk of transom outa a junked boat, with all the various Mercruiser drillin's from the 60s, to current production...
It's 'bout 2, 1/2ft. square, .063" aluminum from an ole Starcraft Holiday...
I've got the crankshaft centerline marked, so it's pretty easy to lay it out on a blank transom, 'n transfer some reference points to start cuttin', 'n drillin'...
I've usually just eyeballed the squareness of the holes with a speedisquare, but found a drill adapter I'm gonna try next time...
The sleeves on the drillin' holes of that tool are 'bout it's Best point...

Besides,... The Beauty of workin' with Fiberglass is, ya just pack a Mistake fulla structural filler, 'n start over in a couple of hours,.... ;)

Almost like Steel,.. If ya cut it short, weld it back together, 'n try again,... :D

Check out Friscoboaters thread. He had the same problem and bought a tool from Home Depot(?) so he could drill the holes in his new transom.

No, he didn't convert to an I/O, but he still had to cut fresh holes for the transom assembly and such. His process would be the same you would need to use to cut through your transom...
