Is anyone familiar with Regency boats? They are a Canadian mfg. I can't find a thing about them on the web other than their rather sparse website (www.regencyboats.com). Surely someone out there owns one of these or has an opinion. Is this a well constructed boat? Reason I ask is that someone has offered me a good deal on a '96 Regency bowrider. I'd jump at it but I know nothing about this make.

Re: Anyone heard of Regency?

I was in the same position last fall.I was offered a good deal on a boat no one had ever heard of.I did a little checking and everthing on the boat was mercruiser brand(gauges, and all the controls). It had a Chevy 300hp 350 (L82Corvette)Alpha 1 Drive. The boat was well built.I have not had it on the water but have updated everything and have not had any trouble finding OEM type parts. The point I am making is check the boat for rot and check the parts (Engine, gauges and drive type)and then go boating.I have no regrets for buying a no name boat. With a little work it looks like a million bucks.Good Luck

Skategoat,

Took a look and it looks like a nice entry level boat. I like the way the swimplatform is integrated with the OB motor.. :)

I would agree that an lesser known boat should never scare you away until you are aware of problems. Most hulls are copies of others anyways. Very difficult to patent a hull, although there are some..

Which model are you looking at? HP? Engine? Price? Hours? Looks like all mercs being hung on these. The web site is thin...

How does the interior look. If left out to the elements it would have begun to fade and chalk up. Check the bottom, dings, scratches, etc. as well as the hull. What kind of trailer if any?

One thing I was impressed with was that these are very beamy (wide) boats. More stable in seas and more comfortable for passengers. If I were looking at an open runabout these would still be on my list based on the bare bones information on the web site. As I am assuming that this is a used boat a little information on how it was stored would be nice. Looks like an efficient layout from what I could get from the web site..

Once again, don't let a less than well known brand scare you away!!!!!!! :) :)

Post more infor and there will be a lot of responces I am sure.

While I agree that a lesser known boat should never scare you away I would urge anyone to check the hull out thoroughly. Just because it is made with fiberglass that dosen't mean that is well made.

In south Florida years back guys would get together in their backyard and reverse engineer a mold using an existing boat as a plug. They would then slap together a bunch of boats and sell them for cheap - which is what they were. We used to refer to them as "Hialeah specials."
One I remember was a Mercruiser powered 24' fiberglass boat that retailed for $4,995.00. They sold hundreds under different labels. Been gone for years.

There is one rather major manufacturer today that started out that way.

Quantumleap,my brand was a LESSON,It was made by L and S MFG in Eldon Missouri in 1987. From the info that I have gathered from the original owner the hull is a BONANZA which went out of business in the late 80s.
