I just finished a pretty major overhaul of my 96 bayliner 1850ss and have finally been using it the last few weekends. I had made a new engine cover/swim pad and new upholstery for it. I was curious if anyone has experimented with insulating the inside of the engine cover for sound. I saw a new bayliner the other day and it almost looked like it had "egg crate" insulation on the underside of the engine cover. Is it really that simple? I dont mind the noise as i like to hear the 4barrel open up...but if it was a little quieter it would be okay with me. I also dont want to spend a lot of money...so maybe that would be an obsticle.

thanks, Bob

Instead of the egg crate foam, go with the Dyna-Mat insulation (or equivilent). Foil on the outside and adhesive backed on the other.

I use car sound insulation 1" thick with aluminum foil.

Use what Fireman431 said....it works the best. It is expensive but is worth it.

Don't forget to make sure it's heat and flame resistant / retardant.
