Anyone know how to make a bellhousing cover for when I remove my outdrive for winter?

I'm planning on removing my mercruiser alpha gen II drive before winter to have some maintenance done during the off season. I have seen pre made bell housing covers for sale on ebay, but I am wondering if anyone has made one themselves? I'm sure that I could throw one together, but if anyone has some plans or maybe even a couple of measurements or pointers that would be a big help. Thanks!

Plastic garbage bag and some packing tape.... Cheapest you'll get...

Easiest way to make a more solid cover would be to get a piece of material of your choice (steel, aluminium, wood, plastic), lay a drive gasket on it and mark up the stud holes, and the shift slider area. Drill the holes and cut the slider hole out. Make up a 'pocket for the slider and glue/weld/screw the pocket to the cover.... Still easier to use a garbage bag... ;)

Thanks for the info guys. I thought about using a garbage bag but I was unsure if it would seal it up well enough for the winter. I'll probably mock up a solid cover using a drive gasket as a template.

What are you trying to seal out?

I'm trying to keep moisture and critters out of there during the winter months.

Plastic bag taped to the bellhouse opening will be more than sufficient for those. But if you have the time and want to create a custom cover, I'm sure it'd work too and look a lot better.
