Why a CB instead of a VHF?

just mount it in a protected area, don't go for the most expensive, i have used car radios, in boats for many years.

I also searched for a marine CB but never found one. I have been using a $50 Radio Shack unit for a couple of years with no problems. My boat is a surf-launched dory, but the radio is mounted in a protected area of the console.

When mounting, be aware of the loudspeaker location. On the Radio Shack unit, the speaker is on the bottom.

CB often gives better range than VHF, and some local fishing fleets (such as the Pacific City dory fleet in Oregon) use CB. VHF is always essential, but some areas use CB for chit-chat.

Well, thats the thing. I really don't have a good place to mount it. Unless i mount it in the cuddy. But then its pointless. How about some type of protective sleeve?
