Hang on for a little while if you can.. Lowrance is comming out with some new color models very shortly in the size of the current X88-X98... Less $$$ than the X18, same features...

Otherwise, go for it... X18 is a fine piece of equipment, just a little on the expensive side for my taste..

Re: Anyone own an X18C Lowrance GPS?

Shawzee,

I bought one in the fall to install on my new rig. It was kind of a compulsive purchase but the price was sweet enough for me to take it. I was at Gander Mountain asking some questions about their Sonar/GPS units when the manager asked me if I would be interested in the X18C. He indicated that someone ordered it early in the season and never showed up to pick it up. He indicated the unit retailed for $799 and he would sell it for $699. It also happened to be they were also advertising 10% off electronics as a end of season sale; then I got an additional 10% off by filling a credit card application out. I couldn't refuse the opportunity so I walked out with a new Sonar/GPS for a lot less than what I would expect to pay when I had my new boat in the spring.

I also own the Lowrance I Finder and have the Map Create software which saved me a few sheckles. However, the dealer I bought my boat from and who is installing the unit said the antenna that otherwise came with the software package would run me about a hundred bucks.

I know most of my info does not answer your question but I will let folks know how things work in the spring when everything gets up to speed.

Kevin

Shawzee
I do not have one but have got many chances to use the X16CI and also ask party boat Captain how he likes his.

What impressed me is how easy it is to see in daylight. Most fish finders or GPS units you need to be right in front of at the right angle to see real good. Move out of position and hard to see. The X16ci you can see at any angle and even view from the back of the boat. Party boat Captain in San Francisco bay, Delta, and Near Shore said is about the 4th fishfinder he has had and by far the best.

One thing I did note that I did not like is at night too bright, it blinds you where can not see ahead. Had to throw a black towel over it or turn it off. They may have a dimmer by now as the need it at night.

Wait for the boat show and see what is new if you can.

Also go to Lowrance site where you can download a product emulator to your pc. These pretty much let you try it on your pc and see if you like it.

http://www.lowrance.com/Software/PCSoftware/demos.asp
